A Full Moon Ritual to Release What No Longer Serves You

A Full Moon Ritual to Release What No Longer Serves You

The full moon has been used as a marker for reflection for as long as people have looked up at the sky. You don't need to believe it holds any special power for it to be useful — think of it simply as a monthly reminder to pause and ask: what am I still carrying that I don't need to?

What you'll want

  • A quiet 10–15 minutes, ideally as it's getting dark
  • Paper and a pen
  • A candle, if you'd like one (always on a safe, heat-proof surface, never left unattended)

Nothing here needs to be perfect or elaborate — the ritual works because you show up for it, not because every detail is exact.

The ritual

  1. Settle in. Find a spot where you won't be interrupted. If you're using a candle, light it now.
  2. Write it down. On your paper, write a short list of what you're ready to let go of this month — a worry, a habit, a way of thinking that isn't serving you anymore. Be honest rather than tidy.
  3. Read it back, once. Not to dwell on it, just to acknowledge it.
  4. Release it. Fold the paper and set it aside somewhere out of sight — a drawer, a box — rather than carrying it with you. (If you'd like to burn it, only ever do so outdoors, in a proper fire-safe container, away from anything flammable, and never left unattended.)
  5. Close with a breath. Three slow breaths, and let that be enough for tonight.

This ritual doesn't promise to fix anything overnight — it's simply a way of marking the month, noticing what you're ready to put down, and giving yourself permission to do it.
